Calcium alginate (CAS Reg. No. 9005–35–0) is the calcium salt of alginic acid, a natural polyuronide

constituent of certain brown algae. Calcium alginate is prepared by the neutralization of purified alginic acid with appropriate pH control agents, or from sodium alginate by metathesis with appropriate calcium salts.

1)Gelling: Calcium alginate is insoluble in water and organic solvents, hardly soluble in ethanol, and can form thermal irreversible gel

2)Health care: Calcium alginate has water absorption and good breathability. It can be used to make hemostatic gauze. It has hemostatic function, prevents bacterial infection, and promotes tissue healing.

Applications 

Industrial: welding.

Food: various bionic foods, meat products.
